Super Sheraton Clinches Victory in the Third Edition of the Oke Umurhohwo Football Cup

Ughelli, Delta State, December 18, 2022 – The Oke Umurhohwo Football Cup (OFC) celebrated its third edition with resounding success, culminating in a thrilling final match held on December 17, 2022, at the Ughelli Township Stadium.

The tournament, a brainchild of Hon Oke Umurhohwo, aims to promote sports in Delta State and Nigeria at large, providing young football enthusiasts a platform to showcase their talents. This year’s edition was no exception, with enthusiastic participation from teams and spectators alike.

Kick-Off and Tournament Progression
The tournament kicked off on December 1, 2022, at the Ughelli Township Stadium, with teams from various regions competing fiercely for the coveted trophy. Despite the challenges of traveling and the high cost of living, Elite FC of Benin City demonstrated remarkable dedication and sportsmanship. While the results didn’t favor them this time, the Oke Umurhohwo Foundation acknowledges their efforts and supports their journey home with a token of 25,000 Naira for transportation.

Semi-Finals and Grand Finale
The semi-finals held on December 15, 2022, saw intense competition as teams vied for a spot in the final match. The grand finale on December 17, 2022, was a spectacle, with Super Sheraton of Ughelli facing Ughelli United. In a match that kept spectators on the edge of their seats, Super Sheraton emerged victorious, securing a 2-1 win and etching their name in the history of the OFC.

Honoring Participants and Special Guests
The event was graced by distinguished guests, including former Delta State Commissioner for Finance and frontline governorship aspirant David Edevbie. His presence, along with other notable dignitaries, added to the grandeur of the occasion. Special thanks go to His Royal Majesty, Dr. Wilson Ojakovo Oharisi III; Rt Hon Ovie Agas, represented by Clement Igbedia; Chief Dr. Chris Oharisi; Olorogun Peter Akpofure; Olorogun Pius Omubaye; Olorogun Superior; Edward Omotubu; and Olorogun David Edevbie, who generously donated an additional sum of N200,000 to the prize money.

Recognition and Awards
In addition to the main trophy, awards were presented for Best Player, Highest Goal Scorer, and Best Goalkeeper, recognizing individual excellence and contribution to the game. The players were honored with medals, celebrating their hard work and dedication.
