Ughelli, Delta State, 17th December 2023 – The fourth edition of the Oke Umurhohwo Football Competition concluded with an exciting final match at the Ughelli Township Stadium. Solution Football Club emerged victorious, defeating Royal Oghale FC 2-1 in a thrilling contest that showcased the best of local football talent.
The competition, which started with 16 teams, witnessed Super Sheraton, the defending champions, kick off the tournament with a strong victory. However, it was Solution FC that captured the title this year.
The final match was attended by prominent figures including the Ovie of Ughelli Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Dr. Wilson Oghenevo Oharisi III, represented by Chief Peter Akpofure; and the Commissioner for Environment, Delta State, Ejiro Jamani. The dignitaries lauded Oke Umurhohwo, the sponsor and organizer, for his continued commitment to promoting sports and supporting youth development.
In the final, Royal Oghale FC scored the first goal in the 30th minute of play. Solution FC equalized in the 60th minute through the relentless efforts of Ajiri. The winning goal came in the 82nd minute, leading to jubilant celebrations by Solution FC supporters.
Commissioner Ejiro Jamani presented the trophy and a cash prize of N350,000 to Solution FC. Royal Oghale FC received a cash prize of N200,000 for their second-place finish. Individual awards were also given to Collins Onovughe (Most Valuable Player), Great Oduvie of Delta Rangers (Highest Goal Scorer), and Goodluck Emmanuel of PTI FC (Best Goalkeeper).
Coach Morrison of Solution FC was named Best Coach, while Coach Fabian Okuma of Orlando Rangers received the Sportsmanship Award. Abel Jerome was recognized as the Best Fan, and Maro 11 Speedstar Under-15 received the Fair Play Award. The event featured musical entertainment by Shuun Bebe, son of the late Okpan Aribo, with Otega Kennedy Onokpevwe, popularly known as Big Daddy, serving as the commentator.
In his address, Oke Umurhohwo, founder of the Oke Umurhohwo Foundation, emphasized the importance of developing local talent through such competitions. He promised an expanded tournament next year with increased prizes and the presence of coaches and scouts from Europe and other parts of the world.
Among the distinguished guests were Chief Jaro Egbo, Special Adviser to the Delta State Governor on Transport; Pastor Kesiena Nomuoja, Ughelli North PDP Chairman; Chief Samuel Akpimegi, President-General of the Ughelli Descendants Union (UDU); Chief Samson Gordons, Olorogun Scot Udu, and other notable personalities.
The Oke Umurhohwo Football Competition continues to be a significant platform for nurturing young football talent in Delta State and beyond. The foundation looks forward to the fifth edition, promising even greater opportunities for aspiring football stars.
